To continue in abefitting manner the celebrations of the150th anniversary of Unified Italy, a glittering evening reception, attended by major British television personalities, was held at the Italian Ambassador’s Residence, to bring to the limelight the great gardens of Italy, as portrayed by Derry Moore (Lord Drogheda) and Monty Don in their book “Great Gardens of Italy”, which has just been published. This beautiful volume offers a spiritual travel through some of the most celebrated landscape treasures in the world. Monty Don has been a television presenter since 1989. Among others he presented the well-known BBC's "Gardener’s World" for five years and, more recently, the travel programme “Around the Worldin Eighty Gardens”. The book launch coincides with his forth coming BBC series in which he visits the great gardens of Italy. Derry Moore became a professional photographer in 1971, after studying with the British photographer Billy Brandt. Derry Moore is an eminent photographer of gardens, house sand people in architectural interiors. In 2005 the National Portrait Gallery hosted a retrospective of his work. Both the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Portrait Gallery have Derry’s work in their collections. The authors's passion for Italy emerges from every image and word of the bookand is an example of theen during affection of Britons for every thing Italian. |
